How does LIMPEO work?

Electromagnetic waves travel through the water
The device emits low-frequency EM waves that penetrate the pipe and act on the calcium ions dissolved in the water. The crystals change shape: this is the fundamental physical principle behind LIMPEO.

Calcite → Aragonite
Under the effect of the waves, calcium no longer crystallizes as calcite (adherent cubes) but as aragonite (non-adherent micro-needles). Aragonite stays suspended in the water and is naturally flushed away.

What we do not promise
The effect in real conditions depends on water hardness, flow rate and the installation. Laboratory studies (Coey and Cass 2000, Kobe et al. 2001) measure an effect on crystallisation, not a reduction of scale at the scale of a house. Our trials and their limits are detailed on the Science page.
